The White House takes on Fox News

White House Communications Director Anita Dunn said this week that Fox News is “not a news network at this point” and “a wing of the Republican Party.”  Why the war of words and how might it impact other news divisions?

Welcome All, Dan, Callie, Jon, , ,JoeS

ST: Obama best be Aggressive athletic Attacking Fox

I do support Dan Kennedy in saying that Fox just out and out lies, and tailors all information to the advantage of the F-GOP which is the current controlling wing of the GOP. After tuning into O'Reilly every so often I do not have the same sweet spot that Dan has for millionaire Bill.

Callie, I know you think that those commentators are not part of news yet they are on the TV, opposite news, in the evening time so they tend to be viewed as News. They fill the airwaves with opinion at news time.

Fox like Cheney is using the age old tactic of repetitive bull shit to make lies seem like truth. In selling the war in Iraq they just repeated and repeated their message and soon all the media was repeating it as truth.

So How do you fight a persistent liar that has good looks??

You call them a liar, show the truth, be honest, persistent, and persnickety.

Now I doubt Obama can do this, yet this is the winning tactic.

DOES ANYBODY REMEMBER THE FIST BUMP STORY?!?!

I agree with Callie Crossley, she's got the wrong TV host and wrong issue. Barack Obama rarely mentions Glenn Beck, but look back over the campaign at the amount of times he mentions Sean Hannity in a negative way. It's a surprising amount. And I don't think it's racism in the teabaggers. When asked during the campaign by Katie Couric about which negative attacks got under his skin, and his answer was the attacks on his wife. I mean if you take a step back, not too many political spouses, even potential First Ladies, got as much attacks as Michelle Obama. It's true and it's sad that we won't admit that or act like she's "fair game." And Sean Hannity was the leader on pushing the attacks that Michelle Obama was "didn't love her country" or "bitter"

FOX News was the network with the graphic "Obama's Baby Mama" and FOX News' E.D. Hill (not Hannity or Beck) was the whole reason who were all taking about Michelle Obama's "terrorist first jab" Yes, FOX News called Michelle Obama a terrorist (why would they say that unlike they wanted to viewer to make that association).

So yeah, Barack Obama has an issue with FOX News.

Callie may make a distinction between "Fox News . . . and the rest of it . . . the Hannity's and the O'Reilly's and the rest of that crew . . . well they're not in the news department . . ." but that is a distinction the general public does not make. They all appear on something called "Fox News Channel."

Mr. Dave: Let me clarify. I give O'Reilly credit for being recognizably of this planet when it comes to political commentary, credit I would not extend to Beck or Hannity. That said, I don't agree with O'Reilly on much of anything. Although I should point out that he opposes the death penalty, as do I.

Cindy McCain found a married man 25 years her senior with a crippled wife and three school-aged children, their youngest was not yet 12 years old and broke up that marriage. Cindy McCain's father and his connection got John McCain his first political office in a state he'd never lived in and then she inherited all her money and screw-over her two half-sisters out of her late parents' estate (she often says "I'm an only child"). She WORKED for Charles Keating and she's the whole reason Keating got any access to John McCain. She was convicted of defrauding a charity so that she could abuse pharmaciticals.

Imagine if Michelle Obama had done anything close to that...

Michelle Obama get way more negative press and focus that I think it pretty racism.

This is fun. Comment, people.

Comment.

Hi Callie, Dan, ALL,

ST: Racism "Hate Mail to Callie (NOT)"

Callie is right on ONE major account. Racism, and white supremacy is getting cover under the three stooges plus brothers and one or more sister.

I know people that fit this category. Good people that wouldn't act this way to a real person at their social level yet still racist when it comes to Obama.

I have been watching for out and out racism on Fox News yet only Glen Beck goes so far as to make it obvious with a well publicized recent TV interview. If you see the second link you will see that he has a special hate for mixed marriages or anyone acting so called White. If you know the history and are old enough to see racism on both sides you can read racism pretty clearly in Beck. I haven't yet read Adam's piece in the Phoenix. As an aside, I did experience racism during that big Bad Black era (60s) from Blacks. I felt a little sorry for some blacks that had to join in or be ostracized from the date and social scene.

Hannity is awful close yet he hates all Democrats even when they do something good for humanity. Clinton received an honor to help Haiti and all Hannity could do was Gong Him "Liberal" on the few minutes I watched him that night. No Value is Hannity to the USA or the World. You would think with his stupid football throwing to someone (maybe a Black) off set would make him like blacks yet I guess he needs his dad and a 2by4 to readjust his mouth and attitude. The 2by4 or excessive corporal punishment by his dad is something he found rewarding. That was one stupid era that Hannity idolizes.

O'Reilly is special since he has that pus (slang for a facial expression) that he elevates regularly as a tool to show how dumb is his opponent on a particular topic. Bill uses this as an intentional strategy to harden a position. He also uses gal opponents as props so that he seems like he is listening to the other side. O'Reilly is probably racist and definitely an Ugly American yet he plays a more difficult act to catch on racism lines.

ANYWAY, Callie was Correct.
Fox News' 3 stooges (plus) offer a Cover for Racists

Hi Dan,

Thanks For: " Let me clarify. I give O'Reilly credit for being recognizably of this planet when it comes to political commentary, credit I would not extend to Beck or Hannity."

Yes I do agree that Bill seems to sometimes be ON this planet. Yet quite often he either shows (ignorance about science, medicine and history) or does it for his loyal Gold Club members. http://www.billoreilly.com/membership

On the night he was blasting Obama or the Nobel Committee he opened up his special community to the WORLD to show his magnanimousness.

Edit-01: Has anybody seen the Lee Atwater story. The man who lied for Bush #1 and Used the Media?

Another thing about how agree with Callie Crossley overall point but not her specific examples.

The Teabaggers. It wasn't just blind-eye that FOX News turned to clear and present racism within it. Can we finally all agree that FOX News didn't cover it, but promote the Teabaggers. I mean you have one person after who attended these rallies who said that they learned about it from FOX News. We all saw the footage of that younger news producer rallying up the crowd just before the cameras went on-air. I don't really buy that she was acting on her own there being so new to the organization. Then FOX News only promotes the hell of the event, but calls out the other news channels for not covering it. Then all other news channels have to say how they did cover it, which got the event twice as much coverage.

So yeah, I think it's about time the White House stop playing nice.

Oh and to Jon Keller's point about evalating FOX News. It's going to get noticed with or without the White House. It dominates cable news.

And sick of this "reach out to the other side" nonsense. If a person only watches FOX News and won't turn the channel to watch Barack Obama or Joe Biden or Kathleen Sebelius or Bob Gates on another show, then it's safe bet he/she is pure FOX News kool-aid drinker...

Speaking of newsmagazines . . . scathing indictment of Fox News in this week's Newsweek:

Perhaps they have a future after all.

Harrybosch,

I hope so. Newsweek was always my favorite. Thanks for the link.

Hi ALL,

ST: NewsWeek did good.

Now Donna I liked Time better, plus the WSJ, BusinessWeek. Yet that was decades ago and this is our and our grown children's NOW.

I have devised several strategies to take on, and destroy Fox News and the 3 stooges plus sisters. They are all doable in spite of Emily's comments that 24/7 Fox News is more important and stronger than the Presidency and the people.

Fox News and the 3 ugly stooges, rather than those funny guys who like other era comedians took on Hitler before it was popular, can be beaten and should be beaten for the safety of USA citizens.

Here is one article with some of the numbers on white supremacy and hate groups from the Boston Globe. OK I will post this on an Edit since the Globe (or Browser/PC wars) are crashing my computer as I type. Back later with an edit.

Edit:01 Boston Globe Sunday 18Oct2009 pg:1A
Secret Service strained as leaders face more threats
Report questions its role in financial investigations

This is one of those articles that is on another topic i.e. redirection of the SS yet you can start to see some of the "numbers" resulting from radio and TV polarizing personalities. I am sure if we looked at Police and FBI figures we would see the same trend.

Hi Again ALL, Donna, Harry, Dan, Callie, Ralph

ST: The NoBrainer Public and media's misdirection.

If you click on that BGlobe article and read the 3rd poster you will see one of the fallacy's believed by many in the public and propagated by certain media groups. Basically Hate news doesn't propagate hate acts.

I call this the NO Brainer argument since common sense and logic tells and shows us that if we over market pepperoni pizza, pepperoni pizza sales will have increased sales. If we over market male enhancement drugs "son of a gun" increased sales. Woah NO connection to the NO Brainer. Out there in CDC land when the CDC and the US government wanted to reduce smoking in the 70s and 80s they launched a campaign that included the media in it's anti-smoking campaigns and guess what happened to the numbers?

Now certain media groups latch on to the free speech argument ONLY so they can have increased viewer / listener-ship and make money.

Edit-01 References to the AntiSmoking Campaign, since i know some B-t-Press viewers are data and logic challenged

Welcome Again Emily, ALL, Harry, Donna, Dan, Jon,,, ,

ST: Fox News is taking an interesting Protectionist Twist

Yet don't trust them..

It is always fun to see how the other side responds, particularly when they have been common violators of good common sense. I don't even want to get into Professionalism in Journalism since that seems to have left us in the USA and World for a few more decades.

Fox tonight (Hannity and sister Gretta) did some interesting twists to counter the Obama attack. On Hannity we had a Fox commentator who seemed like the only mature person in the room going after Fox's 3 stooges including Hannity, and Gretta showed us old footage of her trip to N.Korea. I mean here is Hannity criticizing Anita D for praising MaoTseTung (old spelling) and here we have Gretta praising the N.Koreans. BTW opposite to Fox News was "The Ghost Rider" and it was far more fun as Good conquered Evil even when Evil set up the playing deck.

We will see how smart Obama is, as it is easy to attack No Brainer TToxNet Fox.

Very, very good, Ralph. You just keep censoring me. I sense a new ride in your immediate future.
